Each year almost all of our students are accepted into Catholic preparatory high schools. This year 15 students were accepted to St. Marys College Preparatory High School, 26 students to Salesian High School, one student to DeLaSalle High School, one student to Holy Names and one student to Sacred Heart High School in San Francisco. Two eighth graders received academic scholarships from Salesian High School for receiving high scores on their entrance exams. Congratulations to Nick Delgado for scoring 80% or higher on the entrance exam and Roger Li for scoring 99%. It was noted that Roger Li received the highest score of all students taking the entrance exam for Salesian High School. We are very proud of the high academic achievements of our eighth graders and wish them well in their future educational endeavors. In addition to the success of our eighth graders, 4 of our science fair winners will compete in the Bay Area Science Fair held on April 2nd and 3rd in San Francisco. The Bay Area Science Fair participants are: John Pugliesi for his project on How Flight Angle Effects Trajectory, Tyler Petersen for his project on Which Material is Most Effective in Absorbing an Oil Spill?, Roger Li for his project on The Speed of Evaporation of Dry Ice in Different Liquids, Marcos Molinar for his project on What Product Really Makes Your Teeth White?, and Jacob Shaffer for his project on How to Keep Plants Freshest the Longest. Our St. John students will be competing with other top students from the surrounding Bay Area. We commend them on their outstanding work and wish them the best in the upcoming science fair. Students in Mrs. Milanis honors math class are busily preparing for the first annual Math Contest sponsored by Salesian High School. The contest is scheduled for May 3rd. The honors math students have been working on critical thinking math problems that involve algebra, geometry, and critical thinking. The students are very excited about the math contest and have shown quite an aptitude for solving the most perplexing of problems that have professors, engineers, and even math teachers stumped. We are all excited about the upcoming math contest and Bay Area Science Fair and eagerly await the results of our students performance. A nurturing student environment is just part of what sets St. John School apart. We are so proud of our students and ever so thankful to the wonderful, talented, and dedicated teachers and staff who create such rich learning environments for eager minds. It is truly satisfying to be a part of such an energetic learning community. My sincerest appreciation and heart-felt pride go out to all our teachers and staff! Sincerely, Terry Barber, Principal Staffing Changes We regret to announce that Mrs. Patti Cohoon-de Bruitrago has given notice that she will not be returning as the first grade teacher next year.
