Parent involvement and support makes a great deal of difference in a childs attitude toward school. Parents do not need to be highly educated or have a lot of free time for their involvement to be beneficial. Seeing parents actively involved in the life of the school community helps children see the importance of education. Spending just a few hours in the classroom, on field trips, or becoming involved in fund-raising projects of the school, have significant positive effects on a childs success in school. Overall parent involvement at St. Johns is very good. However, active and sustained involvement revolves around 40% of the parent population. More parents need to focus on helping out whenever there is a need and not just complete required hours. Thanks to the 40% of parents who go over and beyond the call of duty, we have accomplished much for our children this year. This year parent participation has truly enhanced the curriculum and community spirit of the school. This year the parent community via the School Board and PTG have accomplished the following: Raised enough funds through PTG to keep tuition costs reasonable, purchase enrichment materials such as science FOSS kits for the children and complete plant improvement projects Enriched the education of our children through the multicultural activities and lessons provided by parent volunteers and the Mission and Pride Committee during the months of February, March, April and May Provide a strong and well organized sports and athletic program Made significant plant improvements such as repairing the gutters and roofs of the buildings and installing a new fence along San Pablo Ave. Purchased disaster supplies and equipment Provide family fun nights and family social activities New energy efficient lighting in the Library All of these contributions and the many more behind the scene acts of volunteerism are a valued asset that makes our school so successful. Your continued support and involvement in the school can be seen in the successes of our children. Thank you one and all for all that you do for St. John School. Sincerely, Terry Barber, Principal BE AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF PTG and THE SCHOOL BOARD Studies show that students are more successful in schools when parents are involved in their education. Parent involvement and support makes a great deal of difference in a childs school performance. Children respond positively to school just knowing that their parents are an active part of their school. One avenue for parents to truly make a difference in the school community is to be a member of the PTG and the School Board. The PTG and The School Board have been very instrumental in generating funds for plant improvement and enrichment programs for our children. All of these contributions and the many more behind the scene acts of volunteerism are a valued asset that makes our school so successful. Your continued support and involvement in the school can be seen in the successes of our children. If you are interested in being an active member of PTG or The School Board and becoming a part of their governing boards, please contact Terry Barber through the office. Thank you for all your support in our school. Please seriously consider becoming a part of the PTG Board or The School Board and continue the tradition of strong parental involvement at St. John School. REGISTRATION FOR RETURNING STUDENTS The registration packets are in the process of being prepared. This year we are doing the registration packets a little different. They will be handed out on one of the Tuesday memo days and everything, registration money and all the registration forms for the 2008 2009 school year (completely filled out) will be due back to the office by Wednesday, June 11, 2008, the last day of school. The registration fee is $300.00 per child. As per the Contract for Tuition no fees for 2008 - 2009 will be applied to registration until all 2007 - 2008 fees (PPP hours, delinquent tuition, daycare) have been paid in full. If you have an outstanding balance for anything, all money received will be applied to your outstanding balance first before it gets applied to registration for the new school year. If you have any questions, please contact the office. ENROLLMENT APPLICATIONS Enrollment applications for new students are now in the office.
