St. Francis is known for renouncing his fathers wealth and privilege to embrace a life of poverty. His genuine love for the poor led others to join him. St. Francis is also known for his love of animals. It is said that he preached to birds telling them to appreciate Gods gifts. He had a real connection to Gods creation and is often depicted in pictures surrounded by loving animals. Inspired by his example, we seek to live more simply and be better stewards of the abundance that is ours to share. On Friday, October 2nd we will be celebrating the feast of St. Francis of Assisi with a school liturgy led by the fourth grade class at 9:30 a.m. and with the blessing of the animals at 2:15p.m. Ms. Borges and her class will be sending home collection envelopes for the Marine Mammal Center as part of their liturgy. Children are asked to donate some of their own money in support of the Marine Mammal Center which is a hospital for sick and injured sea mammals. The GRIP Harmony Walk to end Hunger is scheduled for Saturday October 10, 2009. Students in grades 7 and 8 as well as faculty members will participate in this years GRIP Walk. GRIP provides meals and housing for the homeless in the Richmond area. The 7th grade class has adopted GRIP as their service learning project this year. The students and their teachers will be asking for pledges for the GRIP Harmony Walk. Please be generous to this very important community project. Participation in events such as the Harmony Walk to End Hunger and taking up a collection for the marine mammal center are excellent ways for our students to learn to be Christian Leaders and Responsible Citizens. Through these projects, children learn to make the world a better place through prayer and action. It is very gratifying to be part of a community that lives the Gospel values of Jesus Christ. Sincerely, Terry Barber, Principal PROGRESS REPORTS On Friday October 9, all students will receive progress reports from their teachers. The purpose of these reports is to give the students and parents a mid trimester assessment of student progress both in schoolwork and homework. If you have any questions or concerns contact your childs teacher. SCHOOL PICTURE REMINDER School pictures will be taken on Wednesday, October 21. Students should be in full uniform for the picture taking. Look for the notice in your Tuesday Envelope. Money and order forms must be submitted to the photographer on Picture Day.
